So first things first. A patch test must be done on every client whether or not they have had their eyebrows or eyelashes tinted at another salon or simply because it has been six months since they last had it done. If you are using a new product a test should be done. Sometimes companies change the product you are using without telling you and it is always good practice to play it safe.

First mix up a small amount of the product you will be using for the treatment booked. Cleanse the area you will be doing the patch test on. This is usually the crook of the elbow or behind the ear. We use these areas because they are quite sensitive areas of skin and they are not as visible as, say the forehead.

Apply a small amount of the product with a cotton bud (about the size of a five pence piece) and ask the client to leave the product on for about eight hours before washing it off. They must give you any feed back on redness, itching or soreness that arises in the area. This must be done at least 24 hours before the treatment.

Ok so the patch test went well and there was no reaction to the product. Now the client has come in for their treatment. You should have already filled out a client consultation card with the time and type of patch test done.
